Narrative Essay - Involves telling a story, which may include a plot, dialogues and characters.
Argumentative Essay – This type of essay is characterized by systematic reasoning to prove that the writer’s opinion or hypothesis is correct and more convincing than other opinions or theories. It should contain arguments along with counter-arguments.
Expository Essay - Intended to explain/describe something to the reader. It may be used to deliver a personal response to a topic or issue.
Analytical Essay – Requires the use of analytical skills or logical reasoning to interpret things like a work of art, a book, a poem etc. The essay involves an ‘analysis’ followed by a ‘personal response’.
Cause and Effect Essay - Involves identification of a cause and then relating it to consequences.
Compare and Contrast Essay – The purpose is to highlight the similarities and differences of a given subject.
Persuasive Essay - Involves persuading the reader to do or believe something through reasoning. The purpose is to convince the reader about a certain idea or fact.
Research Essay/Paper - Involves researching a topic to frame an opinion.
